Getting an OSHKI E-Mail Address
OSHKI offers an e-mail system for its students, faculty and staff. Students are given an e-mail address at the start of their program of study. Faculty and staff are given an e-mail address at the start of their employment.
The format of an OSHKI e-mail address is:
Name: Jane Doe
E-mail address: jane.doe@oshki.ca
Your OSHKI e-mail account is to be used for OSHKI-related communication while studying or working at OSHKI. Your e-mail account will remain active for the entire duration of studies at OSHKI.
Accessing and Checking E-Mail
Users can read messages sent to their OSHKI e-mail address using the OSHKI Webmail facility or an e-mail client program such as Microsoft Outlook.
- Webmail - all users with an OSHKI e-mail address can check their e-mail through Webmail as follows:
- Visit the Webmail facility.
- Type-in your network userid.
- Type-in your network password.
- Click the 'Log On' button.
- Click the subject of the message to open it.
- To exit Webmail, click the 'Log Off' button.
- Microsoft Outlook - is the OSHKI supported e-mail program. Faculty and staff must use MS Outlook to access their e-mail from office computers as follows:
- Logon to your office computer (the Systems Administrator has already installed and configured MS Outlook on your office computer).
- Launch Microsoft Outlook.
- MS Outlook will automatically check for new messages and store them in your Inbox folder.
- Click the message(s) to read.
- To exit MS Outlook, close the program.
Spam E-mail
The OSHKI e-mail system automatically filters out unwanted junk e-mail or spam from known spammers. The spam filter will not deliver spam messages to the recipient's mailbox. Occasionally, a junk e-mail will get through the filter and will be stored in either the recipient's Inbox or Junk E-mail folder. Simply delete the message.
The spam filter may occasionally classify a legitimate and potentially important message as 'spam' due to certain key words (e.g., pills) found in the subject or body of the message. If you did not receive an expected e-mail (and you confirmed it was sent by the sender) then please contact the Help Desk for further assistance.
E-mail Directory
The OSHKI e-mail system maintains an e-mail directory of all students, faculty and staff. You can view the directory as follows:
- Visit the Webmail facility or launch Microsoft Outlook.
- Click the 'New Message' button.
- Click the 'To...' button.
- Browse the list of users.
- To select a user, either highlight the user's name (if using Outlook) or put a check mark beside the user's name (if using Webmail), and then click the 'To ->' button.
- You should now see the user's name placed in the 'To:' field of your message.
- Continue creating and sending your message.
